Mystery Solved!
Apr 1st
Hannah has Roseola, it’s a virus. It starts with a fever for 3-7 days, and then 12-24 hours after the fever goes away a rash shows up. So tonight, almost exactly 24 hours after the fever ended, the rash showed up:
If you look closely you can see tiny red bumps. The rash doesn’t itch so that’s good. The real blessing is that when she was most contagious, the 2 days before she got the fever, we were on vacation so we didn’t go to church and she didn’t expose 30 kids in the nursery.
There isn’t anything you do for Roseola, and now that the fever is gone she isn’t contagious anymore. Good to know why she was sick, and now she has the antibodies so she won’t get it again. It was a bit of a rough week, but it was a good reminder of how much support we have. Thanks for your well wishes and prayers.

H has had a fever off and on since Monday. Wednesday the ped tested for a UTI, but she doesn’t have one. He said to keep her hydrated and come back Friday if she still has a fever. She woke up again this morning with a fever, but it hasn’t gotten much higher than 102 today, so that is an improvement, though her attitude wasn’t. She was captain cranky pants, except when my parents were kind enough to come watch her a couple of time, then she slept or played cheerfully. Baby fraud!
Adam was kind enough to entertain her for a bit when he got home and give me a little break, I celebrated the sun and mowed the lawn. ![]()
Just kidding

We thought she was all better, but she’s not.
She woke us up crying at 4:45 this morning with 105 fever, but after some Tylenol, consultation with our peds 24-hour nurse hotline and watching Micky mouse clubhouse in just a diaper it was down to 103.7, the nurse said to call the ped and take her in the morning. H went back to sleep before 6 and woke up fever free at 8. She was pretty cheerful, just a little less hungry than usual. So we didn’t call the doc. She woke up from her morning nap pretty crank and was back up to 101, but that seemed like no big deal compared to 105.
By 1 she was creeping up past 103 so I called the doc. Usually the office is really fast at getting back to me, but it took a few return phone calls on the part of this antsy mom to get an answer. The fever hit 104.7, but again after medicine it went back down. She’s scheduled for an appointment at 7 tonight, which Adam will be braving without me since I have to work, luckily my dad is going with him. This will be her first doctors visit that i wont be the for. It sounded like they might do try and see if she a UTI which would involve placing a catheter, hopefully they have a device to hold her still for that, she is a mighty strong little gal. I knew she was feeling sick this afternoon when she let me take her temperature without a fight.
The biggest bummer is that my sister-in-law and nieces are in town and we can’t hang out since H may have the plague. Hopefully we’ll get it figured out tonight and it’s not something contagious and they can play.

Yesterday afternoon I noticed Hannah was warm, and when I took her temperature I realized she had a fever. Fast forward 24 hours and she’s stll got the fever. It got up to 104 even with ib profen so she got to take a trip to the doc. A little bit of fun noise in her lung region during her stethoscope exam earned her a chest x-ray
I got to hold her while she screamed through the exam, so Adam got to help insert her in the medieval baby chest x-ray restraint device
She screamed so hard and so loud she broke blood vessels in her face, and I’m pretty sure traumatized everyone in the waiting room
There was a dark streak on the x-ray but after some consultation the doc figured out if was from a skin fold where she was pressed against the baby restraint. No pneumonia, which is good.
Now we’re just watching and waiting, and hanging out by ourselves since she’s contagious as long as she has a fever, boo. If her fever stays up then we’ll go back tomorrow to see if she has a UTI or maybe an ear infection (her ears were fluid free, but they were pink which could have been from the screaming).
For now we enjoy the quiet moments that happen when Hannah is sick. She slept on Adams shoulder for 45 minutes this morning, and sat on my lap for 5 minutes! The doctor used some fun phrases to describe her such as, “spunk” and, “she’s got a lot of fight in her.” both so very true of our busy busy girl.

because someone tiny can open ours doors with these knobs:
We (well mostly Adam) installed new ones that she can’t:
We keep the dogs water bowl in the bathroom, since they like to get water everywhere when they drink and we didn’t want it damaging the wood laminate Adam worked so hard to install. Usually if Hannah is roaming the house I close the bathroom door so she doesn’t play in the dog water. This worked until last week when I’d close the door and walk by a minute later and find it open, Hannah was practicing her new door lever pulling skills. So we have a solution that works for now, we’ll see how long it takes before she can turn these ones.
We’re having a mellow week since there are no bible studies during spring break, so Hannah and I will only be at the nursery wednesday night. Hannah celebrated spring break by waking up 2 hours earlier than usual this morning (though 7:15 is still later than many other babies sleep, so I’m not complaining). Now she is fighting the good fight against this nap. Hopefully she’ll surrender soon so we can go take lunch to Daddy.

We’ve been brushing Hannah’s teeth each night before bed. She doesn’t just sit and hold her mouth open, so it’s bit of a challenge. Usually she sits on one of our laps and the other can get her to open long enough to give one or two swipes before she clamps down on the toothbrush. Then we keep distracting and swiping until we’ve gotten them all. Last week we figured out that if we let her “brush Elmo’s teeth” then she’ll let us brush her teeth longer. It’s pretty cute seeing her happily scrubbing away at Elmo’s black felt mouth. Yesterday in the nursery she found a flashcard with a picture of a toothbrush on it and tried to brush her teeth with that.
Her 4th baby molar is just starting to poke through, tooth number 12. Then we’ll just have k-9s and 2 year molars left.

Today Hannah went down for two naps, and down for the night without any tears! The first day she’s given in to sleep without fighting.
She’s just starting to enjoy sitting still on our laps for a bit while we read a book. She’ll bring a book from her shelf for us to rad. She’s just starting to figure out how to get into our laps. Until now she’s put one leg into our lap and then waited until we turned her around and sat her down, but this week she’s perfecting the turn and squat. I think this is Adam’s favorite milestone so far. He came to visit her in the nursery at church today and said she came over and sat in his lap to play. Pretty sweet.
