Beckerlings
rad, gerbil fetus
Jul 21st
“Your baby weighs about 2.8 ounces (79 grams) and is about 4 1/2 inches from crown to rump—roughly the size of a small gerbil. At any time, you will begin to feel fetal movement as your baby’s bones harden, and she starts a big growth spurt. Your baby has plenty of room: At this point, she could fit in the palm of your hand. This is a great time to be a fetus. At any given time, she might be playing with the umbilical cord (which she’s now able to grasp), putting her thumb in her mouth, or kicking at the amniotic sac.”

Bump July 20th 2009
Kate, the fetus, half a head of lettuce, a chicken breast, 2 servings rice-a-roni, 3 glasses of water, and a dozen cherries. (all of that eaten within an hour, haha)
She’s on to me
Jul 20th
So at work we generally try not to disclose too much to the clients, sine they’ll use it against you any chance they get. So they know I am married, and don’t have kids, but not much else, though they constantly ask.
One of the girls calls me “kate plus 8″ guess she thinks it’s funny. So another girl heard her call me that and asked if I had kids and I said no. And she said, “but you will….” and glanced down at my stomach and back up at me. I turned to the girls and said, “you mean when I legally adopt all of you?” and the girl who calls me “kate plus 8″ said yeah and laughed. The other one just glanced back at my belly and then raised her eyebrows at me. Luckily she didn’t push it any further. Funny, I figured since she only got her a month ago she’d just assume I was chubby, but apparently I’d have to be chubby in places besides my belly.
We’ll have to see what happens at work when the figure it out and word gets out.
Gluttony
Jul 17th
I am sitting here topping my oatmeal chocolate chip cookies with whipped cream before eating them, so I figured gluttony was an appropriate title. I’d blame the fetus, but the sweet tooth isn’t a new thing, I’ve always loved sugar. Hopefully I can attempt to match my sugar consumption with fruit or vegetable consumption each day (yeah right) and then this kid will have a chance at craving foods that are good for it.
I have the evening off since I worked the day shift today taking a tour of all of Looking Glass’s different agencies. It was really cool to see all the services we offer and hope that someday I can work in the counseling program. I also redid the math today for when I’ll be eligible for maternity leave and it’s december 4th, not January 4th like I thought, so I have a much better chance of making it until then before this little turkey pops out.
Adam is researching exercise bikes since he has decided that is his ticket to getting fit. If any of you have an exercise bike that you’re currently using as a dirty clothes holder, let us know. I would give him a hard time about wanting to buy exercise equipment, but I got a Gazelle for my birthday several years ago and didn’t use the thing 20 times before it went to storage. I dream of one day having a house where it can be set up and easy to use, since dragging it out and setting it up was what kept me from using it. Maybe when I’m too huge to run I can go back to Gazelling. For the time being I’m considering the 10k I ran on the 4th of july my workout for the month. Sad, but true.
I have to go claim the tv before Adam claims it to play magic online through the Xbox. Just when I thought playing the magic card game couldn’t get any geekier, it did.
No exciting updates on the fetus front. People say that when you first feel it kick it feels like gas, so I get all excited every time I feel gas, but then I fart and am all sad. I’m sure it’s very entertaining for anyone near me. I’m sitting there grinning, then I fart, and then I frown. Oh, the joys of pregnancy. =)
Registry
Jul 15th
In celebration of the pregnancy now being public, Adam and I went to Target last night and made a baby registry. It reminded me of registering for wedding gifts, though this time Adam didn’t wander off to electronics section and scan all the seasons of family guy, hehe. We’ve been having fun scoping out all the places in town that sell used baby gear.
I’m 15 weeks today, and I get these weekly e-mails telling me about how big my baby is, but they don’t mean much since I don’t typically use ounces as a measurement, so to make it mean more I have figure out how many chocolate chips are in 2.5 ounces. 133!
Snowflake is the same weight as 133 chocolate chips. Also supposedly the size of an orange.
Looking at all these chocolate chips has made me hungry, so I’m off to find lunch for me and the parasite. =)
Snowflake’s first flight
Jul 11th
Some more details:
I’m due January 5th 2010
My next ultrasound is August 5th
We’re not planning to find out the gender, Yay surprises!
Adam and I are at the Portland airport waitng to fly to Boise where his brother lives. First time I’ve flown since we figured out about snowflake (the nickname we’ve given my little parasite, since it’s due in winter). We’re watching another couple who have a baby and tons of baby apparati and realizing this is the last time we’ll be able to fly with so little stuff. =)
Kate’s eggo is prego
Jul 10th
I know a few of you out there already know this, but for the rest of you, we have a little bit of an announcement. That is right, my boys can swim.
Kate is now 14-weeks along and everything is going great so far. We had our third ultrasound a couple of days ago and we’re having another one in about 4 weeks, so more to come then. Until then, enjoy the YouTube videos we’ve put up so far.
