finally comfortable

http://img154.yfrog.com/i/u2e.jpg/

Now just picture me sitting in the middle. So happy!!!!!

The couch is supposed to go 3 long against the windows, and 3 long by the door, but Adam was having fun creating an epic couch before he left for work, so now the front door brushes it when you open and close it, haha. I have the ottoman pulled up right against it so it’s half bed, half couch.

skype baby

I’m trying to think of everything that’s happened since the last post. I’ll be 34 weeks tomorrow, only 6 to go. I am really excited for the 36 week milestone, since that’s considered full term and if you go into labor at any point after then they don’t try and stop it, and babies after then are typically born pretty healthy. 2 more weeks until my turkey is fully cooked.

We got to see her in an ultrasound last Friday and the measurements say she’s about 5 pounds, she’s already bigger than Adam was when he was born. It wasn’t as exciting of an ultrasound since she’s too big to fit on the screen like last time so you see a leg or a foot or her heart, which are all very cool, but no cute curled up baby profile shots. Plus she wouldn’t hold still so we couldn’t get a good 4-d image of her face, just a bunch that make her look like a blob of bread dough with a nose. She does look good though, and it was cool to see all 4 chambers of her heart. We got the ultrasound because my thyroid levels were off so they wanted to check on her, and they changed my medication. Hopefully it’ll all be back on track at my next appointment.

Adam and I took our hospital tour at the hospital we’re going to have Hannah at. The silly swine flu made it so we couldn’t actually go into the labor and delivery ward of the mother baby ward, but we went to the floor and the security guard answered a bunch of questions. Then we watched a virtual tour of the 2 wards. We learned a lot more than we were expecting. I didn’t realize so much had to happen between when you have the baby and when you go home (social security number, birth certificate, hearing test, billirubin level check, quad screen, meeting with the pediatrician, etc). We’re still thinking we might leave a little early if we’re feeling good and Hannah is healthy.

Again because of the flu they are only letting the mom and 2 support people into the actual wards, anyone else has to wait in the main lobby. Funny, they won’t even let them wait in the waiting room on the same floor as the 2 wards. They have a cool set up though so that the first bath, weigh, measure, etc. can be broadcasted via skype to the conference rooms on the 2nd floor, so if you have a bunch of people waiting, they can see the baby live shortly after its born.

We’ve been having fun getting to know the other couples in our home group. It’s nice to be making connections with people our age. It’s especially cool because our church is huge (2,000+ members) so it can feel like you just come and go with no one noticing, but now we know all these other couples, so church feels smaller, but we still get all the perks of a huge church like amazing music and big library.

Adam and I are pretty excited to have Thursday and Friday off, and maybe even more excited to get our couch tomorrow. We’ve been using our 2 love seats since we moved from the dorms and not being able to lay down and relax is pretty sad. Especially now that getting comfortable is starting to be a challenging endeavor for me. We picked a 6 piece sectional that’s big enough for both of us to lay down on at the same time, and if you push all the pieces into a square it’s the size of a king sized bed. Turkey and a grown up sized couch, it’s going to be a few days of dreams come true. =)

Blood Picasso

Dash was kind enough to spice up our morning by somehow scraping the end of his tail (how this hasn’t happened before now with the amount of beating that tail gets each day is beyond me), then he painted our walls with dog tail blood. Ew. Took me a while to figure out what it was, and then a while to figure out where it was coming from. By then his tail wasn’t really bleeding anymore. We soaked the tip in some hot water to clean his fur, he loved the attention and I don’t think he had any idea he had a scrape. So the walls got a wipe down. They still got to go to day care, I’ve been enjoying checking in on them ever once in a while via webcam, Chloe appears to have a new little australian shepherd friend, very cute.

We had a doctors visit Monday and everything is looking good. The bump is measuring a teeny bit on the small side, so we’re hoping I don’t have to push out a 9 pounder. My blood pressure is nice and low. Hannah’s heartbeat was 140 which is good. We learned that at the 36 week appointment we’ll go over the birth plan. I asked about going past my due date and the doc said she generally doesn’t like people to go more than a week past due, so that’s good, since I hear being overdue is uncomfortable.

Adam decided to drive back from the coast last night, so he rolled in around 1am. David kept me company while I sewed since his training doesn’t start till Thursday and he’d come down expecting it to start today. He even helped me take apart and put back together the sewing machine when it got jammed. I finished recovering the bottom cushion for the chair and it looks pretty good, it even has a working zipper so I can remove the cover when Hannah yaks on it. Next up is covering the back cushion. Then I want to staple the extra on the footstool Lorna found me at st. vincent de paul, but I think I should paint it before I recover it, so I don’t accidentally get paint on the new fabric. Maybe this weekend I’ll have time to sand, prime and paint the chair and rocker. Funny how I’ve definitely invested way more time and energy into this old chair and fixing it up than it would have cost to just get a new one, but it’ll be very fun to say I made it. I even have some extra fabric so I’m thinking about padding the arms and covering them with fabric and adding little pockets to put a book, or pacifier in.

Back to work.

week 32

Tomorrow will be 32 weeks in the pregnancy, which means there are only 8 left, horay! It also means that in just 4 weeks I’ll be considered “term” which means she can come anytime after that and it’s okay. I’m pretty excited about that.

It’s been a fun filled few weeks at the Becker ranch. Lorna threw me a baby shower this weekend which was fantastic. Hannah now officially owns more clothes than both Adam and I combined, so there won’t ever be a need for her to be naked, even if she wants to be, haha. Adam and I took our first birth class through my OB’s office and have our second and last one tomorrow. Adam wasn’t expecting to learn much since we already did a bradley (medication free childbirth) class, but he said he actually enjoyed the one last week. Tomorrow we’re learning about c-sections, so that’ll be good info to have. I have an ultrasound on the 20th and am really excited to see Hannah again since we haven’t since 18 weeks which feels like forever ago.

Adam and I are fighting the leaf war with the giant tree in our front yard. He accomplished more in 30 minutes of raking today than I have in my 3+ hours, so apparently raking is not my gift. Could also be that the extra 10 pounds in water weight and inability to get a full breath make me slow, hard to know. =)

The dogs made a request to attend doggie day care in the form of eating 2 books, 3 dvds and more yesterday, so today they got to spend their first day at dog paw day care. They will be there tomorrow if you want to watch them on live webcam, hahaha. http://www.dogpawdaycare.com/dogcam.html They are having a “2 for the price of one” deal right now, so as long as Adam and I are getting home right around dark we’ll probably send them there at least a few times a week so they can get their exercise and not eat our house. They are very happily sleeping on their respective couches right now. I love tired dogs.

Adam is headed to the coast for a sleepover with the middle school group from our church. He left right after work and will be back tomorrow morning before work, so he’ll be nice and exhausted. I figured the fact that I can’t get more than 3 straight hours of sleep even in my own bed without tweens giggling was excuse enough for me to stay with the dogs.

Adam got baptized Sunday which was very cool. He even had a small crowd of our friends come to watch, nice to know we’re so supported in our faith. Then my parents took us out to Red Robin to celebrate, a very fun party.

Last night my parents called to see if they could come see the finished baby’s room since we had put together the crib and dresser they got us. Right before they got here Adam realized the shelves he’d taken so much time to carefully hang a few days ago had pulled out of the wall dumping baby stuff everywhere. The stupid anchors didn’t expand. Luckily we figured this out before Hannah was in there. So my parents graciously imagined what the room would look like without elephant stuffed animals and other baby paraphernalia all over the ground. This house does seem to have a knack for creating constant projects for Adam, and I’m about as useful as a chihuahua.

I’m planning to spend part of my evening doing some sewing since I want to recover the cushions on the rocker glider we found at a garage sale. I’ve never recovered anything before, but I’m great with a seam ripper when I screw up, so it should be an entertaining evening.

I washed the sheets from the guest bed, who’s coming to visit next?

pretend we posted this when it was written October 22nd.

I uploaded those pictures last night, so check em out.

So, I think I left off last night about loving BJs because of their pazookies. After Xaviea and Leah went back home we got prepared for Yoshi to come live at the new house. Got the garage ready for her and introduced her to the house. She was pretty good and has been slowly getting used to all the newness.

  • We made it a point to take the dogs to the park, which has been really good. We’ve met some co-workers and neighbors at the park with dogs and everyone we’ve encountered there is super nice.
  • Kate and Lorna have been working on baby shower. They’ve even got me helping out a bit with the invitations. It sounds like it should be a good time. I am thinking about having some “man time” for those of us who have XY chromosomes.
  • Kate has learned to drive stick, and she is really good at it. When she first started driving it, she had a couple of stalls, but she really surpassed the idiot drivers that cannot handle a stall or two. Kate has the car every day now, and I’ve been riding to work almost every day.

This last weekend was pretty crazy. On Saturday we (Kate, Lorna and myself) got up early to head up to the Portland area. The agenda was simple. I was going to hang out with David for his birthday and Kate and Lorna were going to do baby things. David and I hung out, ran some errands (including getting a new charger for my laptop), and did a magic draft, which was super cool. We had a good time. I also got to see his fam, which was nice because it has been a while. Kate and Lorna went to OMSI and saw the, “babies in the jars” exhibit. Hey, that is not what I call it. After that they met up with my mom and went to the Babies ‘R Us, a.k.a. “the baby mecca.” My mom got us a sweet stroller and car seat. Check out the pictures for some elephant car seat goodness. We made it home that night and pretty much just hung out with the dogs.

On Sunday we did the normal church thing and after church we hung out with some of Kate’s previous RAs. We had some lunch at Red Robin and showed them the house. It was nice to see PJ and little Lea and Lea’s sister. After lunch we got an hour or so to relax and we went off to dinner with the middle school ministry leaders. We talked about our direction and had some good Mexican food. We had to jet early because we had to head over to our first home group meeting. Kate and I are leading a home group and will be doing so for the better part of a year. It went really well, and we are really looking forward to getting into the meat and potatoes of the home group starting next Sunday. We got home so late that we didn’t have time for Dexter.

Fast forward to last night. I’ve been thinking about installing a wired network in the house, from at least the TV area to the baby’s room. It was a big old failure. I didn’t realize that the outside walls are on top of the cement foundation so crawling around under the house was unsuccessful. I am going to have to go in through the attic if I want to be able to setup a wired network. Boo! Then to top off the sadness that was more time without my desktop being connected to the internet, Yoshi decided she needed to jump down into the crawl space where I was and wouldn’t come out. Silly cat.

Well, that is about it, so now it is time to chill on the couch and figure out how to do the whole network thing.
