We Moved!!

Horay! We are officially living in our new house! The last few weeks have been crazy, Adam has spent every evening at the house working, I got the epic cold then went to Nashville and returned still with the epic cold, we never really packed, we started new jobs, and my belly kept growing and growing.

This weekend Katie, Jacci Tom and Austin came down and blessed us big time by packing the duplex, moving stuff to the house, and the guys even cleaned the duplex! The ladies arranged all the furniture so we’d have places to put stuff and our house is really starting to feel like home. We are so so so thankful for the help, especially since I wasn’t of much use with the stupid cold.

We’ll post pictures soon, just have to find the cable that connects the camera to the computer, hehe. We have lots and lots of unpacking to do.

Some new house moments that we’ve really enjoyed; Having 2 bathrooms, a garbage disposal, a driveway we can both park in, a neighborhood without cars parked on lawns, starting to set up a nursery and finally having a guest room where you can all come stay when you visit!

House Transformation

Adam and my dad worked their tushies off this last week, and David joined them this weekend and they accomplished even more. By the time I got home from TN they had finished scraping the ceilings, shellacking the sub floor and even painted most of the ceilings. They also were joined by Paul on Saturday who brought his house building expertise and helped them patch the drywall where they had removed a wall in the kitchen.

Sunday after I got home Adam and David finished painting all the ceilings, and Dad and I painted the guest room and baby’s room. We are just cruising along!

For this week what we have left is painting the living/dining/hallway/kitchen (all kind of the same area) and painting the master bedroom. Installing the laminate in the above mentioned common space and replacing the baseboards. We’re getting the carpet installed Friday and then we’ll be replacing the bedroom baseboards. Then we get to move in!!!!

There is lots of other stuff we’re looking forward to doing once we move in, but it’s not super important right now. (Painting bathrooms, replacing cabinet pulls, replacing sinks and toilets, etc, etc.)

We’re looking for moving helpers this weekend if anyone is available. =)

and by Huge, I mean HUGE!!!!!

Did some research on the hotel to try and give some perspective on just how big it is. It has 2,881 guest rooms and just the hotel is 56 acres. The mall, also on the property is another 27 acres, and that doesn’t include any of the parking lots.

The hotel is approx. 2 million square feet!!!!!!!!!!

Funny since our new house is 960, hehe.

Nashville

Howdy Y’all

My mom and I flew to Nashville, TN Tuesday to attend the American Association of Christian Counselors (AACC) World conference. I didn’t really do much research before we came so it’s been one fun surprise after another. We’re staying at the Gaylord Opryland Hotel, which is HUGE!!!!!! I think you could comfortably fit the city of Forest Grove inside the hotel. It has all these gardens inside, and these giant glass domes so you can see the sun, I went from Tuesday to Friday without actually going outside and was pretty happy. We’ve been getting to see some big name bands and musicians (Amy Grant) and hear some really cool speakers. We even got to hear Gary Chapman who wrote the love languages books. Mom and I have been going to different workshops and then sharing information afterwards, so we’re learning tons. We are excited that today is the last day since the conference starts at 7:30am each morning, which is 5:30 Oregon time, makes it hard to get out of bed.

Last night we ventured out to see downtown Nashville which was fun. We had dinner at B.B. Kings restaurant and got to hear a local R&B band, nice since both of us were expecting to have to hear country music and neither of us like it very much. We got enough taste of Nashville that I could comfortably proclaim that I have no desire to move here.

Tomorrow we’re flying out super early, so we’re hoping to sleep on the plane. Then we get back into Eugene around lunch, and will most likely crash land on our respective couches.

It’s been fun going to a conference that’s so different that what I’m used to, there was definitely not any worship music at the NASPA conference I went to in Seattle in March. But then again, there also we’re advertisements for supplements and bible software during the main sessions.

Okay off to learn more. =)

House Transformation Log: Day 6

Ceiling is all scraped off… too tired to write more… goodnight.

House Transformation Log: Day 5

Today was pretty sweet even though my neck, arms and shoulders are probably going to be sore tomorrow from looking up at the ceiling and scraping for 3 hours. In that time span I got the master bedroom and the baby’s room scraped so that there is no more popcorn left in them (except the master closet, I will have to get that tomorrow). I thought it would take way longer. Every time I told someone I was going to take the popcorn ceiling off, they always had the general reaction of “that is going to suck and take forever”. I am just psyched that I got more than a 1/4 of the house scraping done and it looks really good.

Tomorrow when I scrape out the guest room that I hope you all get to stay in at some point, I will take pictures. It is crazy to see the amount of material that hits the ground from the ceiling. I could make ceiling material angels if I wanted. I wonder what the material actually is. Oh, and just in case anyone was wondering the ceiling doesn’t have asbestos in it, I know that much.

House Transformation Log: Day 4

I was too lazy to write on Sunday.

Sunday was interesting. Ron and I finished pulling out the particle board in the kitchen only to find what looked like some pretty bad water damage behind the dish washer. The inspectors checked the sub floor (which is under the particle board) and that was perfect (yay!). So we tried to clean out as much of the rotted particle board as we could and figured we should get some more opinions on the whole situation. Ultimately, it shouldn’t be an ongoing problem and it won’t be an issue moving forward.

Taking out that particle board ended up being a lot more difficult than I expected, but we know the foundation is good and we know what we need to do to move forward with the kitchen.

House Transformation Log: Day 3

Today was a fun day for the remodel. Today Ron and I took out a wall and removed most of the linoleum in the kitchen.

The wall was tricky because it had a phone jack in it and two electrical outlets. With some guessing and checking and lots of turning the fuse box on and off again we figured out how to isolate that electrical outlets. It was much easier than it could have been because the wall outlets were the end of a circuit.

Last we removed most of the linoleum and the extra 1/4 inch particle board underneath it. The whole process was slow going, but it is going to look awesome in there.

Today we went from this:

Wall

To this:

Less Wall

And then, To This:

No Wall

Added a picture gallery

With all the picture opportunities coming up in the near future I decided to revive photo galleries on Becker Project. To access a listing of the galleries go to http://pics.beckerproject.com. So far we’ve got two galleries up.

The best part is that you can rate and comment on pictures!!! Enjoy.

Useless wife

So when Adam says he , “got busy after work” friday, what he means is he spent the evening going to costco to get my Tamiflu prescription, going to our duplex and getting the dogs and all their and our stuff for the weekend while I laid uselessly on the couch at my parents.

I have been trying to ignore my stupid cough all week and going to work and keeping up with my commitments, but when I got to my parents house after work Friday to drop off Yoshi after her declaw I was feeling lousy. I took my temperature and when I realized I had a fever I knew I should call my OB since being sick doesn’t just affect me now, it affects the little bug too. I called and the secretary said she’d have the on-call nurse call me back. The nurse called a few minutes later and said I needed to go to the ER. Boo. She said I needed to go and ask for a mask as soon as I got there since I had swine flu symptoms and didn’t want to get other people sick. Double boo. Mom and I started getting ready to head to the ER and the nurse called back and said she’d called my OB to say I was going to the ER and my OB said to just get Tamiflu, sine that’s what the ER would do anyway. Yay no ER! The nurse did make me promise to send somone else to costco so as not to infect more of the world, hehe.

So Adam lovingly went and got my wicked expensive flu pills. Though none of us are actually convinced I have the flu. Maybe just a bad cold in combination with not enough rest, and maybe a reaction to getting the flu shot thursday. I have been trying my best to relax today though I did get to take two brief field trips, one to replace the flip flop of Mom’s that rosie ate, and one to see the amazing work the guys have done on the house today. I also gave Rosie a bath which was fun since she’s so little and calm and just stood there in the tub, and loved the rub down to dry off.  Now I’m about to head back to prone on the couch.
